Apsara Authority spokesperson Long Kosal has informed reporters at Phnom Penh Post that tourists must dress appropriately. They will be stopped at the ticket booth before entry into the Angkor Archaeological Park if they fail to comply with the rules.

“We will not allow them to buy a temple pass if they wear revealing clothes,” said Apsara Authority spokesman Long Kosal.

“When visitors dress appropriately during their visit to the park, it means they are showing respect to Cambodian sacred temples, culture and Cambodian women’s values.”

So what should you wear to Angkor Wat?

– Cover your shoulders and knees.
– Wear comfortable shoes for walking.
– Carry a scarf with you all the time in case you need to cover up or it gets chilly.
– Wear breathable fabrics like cotton,
– During rainy season take a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain,
– It can be very hot in jeans, so best to opt for light pants or flowy skirts,

If you do find that you’re turned away when you get to the Angkor Wat ticket booth, don’t worry too much. Mr Long says that you can come back later when you’ve changed your clothing.
