Special cocktails of the month for February 2018 at Baby Elephant Boutique Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia

February is for dreamy lunar-themed cocktails

This month we’ve got not one, not two, but three fabulously special cocktail concoctions. We introduced them a little early for the very special occasion of the extra-big super moon, blue moon and total lunar eclipse that we witnessed here in Siem Reap in late January.

Pop by – whether to our gorgeously funky lobby lounge bar, the serene oasis of our tropical garden escape, or our ultimate chillax-worthy poolside bar – to try one of our limited-edition recipes…or heck, why not just go the whole hog and try all three!?

Take your pick from The Blue Moon, combining blue curacao, butterfly-pea-flower-infused Beefeater gin, orange and cinnamon syrup, lime, bitters, and tonic; The Mood Ring (which got its first outing last year at the similarly lunar-themed Full Moon Apothecary edition of our Siem Reap Gin Appreciation Society popup), a mix of butterfly-pea-flower-infused Beefeater gin, rose syrup, and lime; or the go-hard-or-go-home Il Giallo Rosso (aka Red Horror) that blends Campari, gold tequila, dragonfruit syrup, and lime. They are all $4 and, as always, they are all two-for-one during happy hour from 5pm to 7pm each and every day!

The Banh Mi bowl is popping with flavour, and features our house-made lemongrass dressing, crispy tofu, red cabbage and papaya pickles, mixed salad and red rice.

The Mexican bowl’s spiced rice with beans, fresh tomato salsa, marinated tofu and salad are accompanied by comforting avocado and a creamy Tabasco sauce.

We will be adding to the power bowl menu, so stay tuned for even more delicious options! Best way to top off your nourishing visit to Baby Elephant? With a massage in our Lemongrass Garden Spa!

The new food and drink menu at Baby Elephant Boutique Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia

New restaurant & bar menu

If we’re going to give our interiors a reboot, then it makes sense to go the whole hog and revamp our food and drink menus at the same time. That’s the thinking behind the new array of delicious local and international dishes you’ll find on the menu at our in-house restaurant and bar – everything from locally inspired fish amok to Indonesian soto ayam chicken soup and comforting hand-cut potato wedges with our house-made sour cream. Siem Reap souvenir shopping made easy

It can be difficult to find the right gifts to take home from a holiday, whether you’re buying for yourself or for friends, family, and loved ones. Striking the right balance between personal and practical, and original but not overly corny, can turn the whole gift- and souvenir-buying experience into a stressful chore. But it needn’t be that way: Siem Reap is blessed with countless independent boutiques packed with original, thoughtful and ethically traded souvenirs that you’ll be desperate to find space for in your suitcase. Read our latest blog post for a specially curated look at the gifts we would take home (including plenty for ourselves!) if we were on a short trip to Siem Reap.

El Diego and The Mood Ring cocktails of the month for December 2017 at Baby Elephant Boutique Hotel in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Cocktails of the month: El Diego & The Mood Ring

It’s officially the season to be jolly, so we’ve thrown caution to the wind and brought out not one but two special cocktails for December! The first is El Diego, mixing Sauza Gold tequila with house-made orange-and-cinnamon-infused syrup, lime juice, and soda. And we’ve rolled out the Mood Ring, too, which made its first appearance at our Baby Elephant Gin Appreciation Society popups earlier this year – watch it magically change colour from blue to purple as you squeeze lime into a delectable combination of butterfly-pea-flower-infused Beefeater gin and rose syrup! Better yet, as always, you can get two for one on both of these cocktails during our daily happy hour between 5pm and 7pm. But hurry, because both El Diego and the Mood Ring will be gone again come the end of December!

We’ve already made a raft of changes and improvements, to ensure that your next stay in Siem Reap will be your best yet – and we’ve got plenty more to come.
Thank you to all our past, present and future guests and friends for your support in helping us to make Baby Elephant the oasis that it is today. We hope you’ll stay on our journey with us as we reveal lots more exciting improvements – and do come and visit us again soon! BIG NEWS: BRAND NEW BUDGET ROOMS IN OUR NEW HOTEL WING

Hold the front page – we’ve added a whole new wing to the hotel! We have been fortunate enough to take over the building next door, allowing us to expand Baby Elephant. After 2 months of renovations and improvements we have grown into a 25-room hotel. In addition to the 13 Premium Rooms in our existing building, we now have another 12 Budget Double and Twin Rooms. These are perfect for both individual and group travellers looking for a comfortable, budget-friendly place to stay without the added frills offered by our premium rooms.
These bright, modern, air-conditioned rooms have comfortable beds, desks, plenty of storage, and private bathrooms with complimentary amenities. Needless to say, guests in these rooms still get all the benefits of daily housekeeping and 24-hour front desk service – plus all other facilities like our gorgeous saltwater pool with jets, our gym space, beautiful spa, and restaurant serving delicious local and international dishes throughout the day. All rooms come with our free signature a la carte breakfast and complimentary airport pickup.
To celebrate, we’re running a launch sale with massive discounts off all rooms right across the hotel for all arrivals from November to March – both Premium and Budget Rooms! Book direct with us to secure the best deals. We will also be running flash sales for the entire high season when you book direct, so be sure to check back!

Quick Fact: Baby Elephant is just 7 kilometres from Angkor Wat. The medieval nature of Angkor civilisation means the Angkor Archaeological Park lacks formal boundaries. But stretching over some 400 square kilometres, including forested area, the park contains the magnificent remains of several capitals of the Khmer Empire of the 9th to the 15th centuries, including the largest pre-industrial city in the world.

Keen to see it all? All you have to do is get to Siem Reap, then our knowledgeable team will help you arrange the rest.

FOR THOSE WHO PREFER LUXURY: FRESH NEW LOOK FOR OUR PREMIUM ROOMS

But Wait! There’s More: We also recently gave the Premium Rooms in our existing building a beautiful refresh – meaning you can now enjoy high-end linens, fresh colours, vibrant design, and even more comfort than these rooms already offered! All our spacious, peaceful, air-conditioned Premium Rooms come with safety deposit boxes, minibars, phones to order our delicious room service and contact the front desk and other rooms, and large flat-screen TVs.
There are also bathrobes, slippers, and large, chic bathrooms with complimentary organic bathroom amenities – and all guests get free a la carte breakfast, free airport pickup, and use of our lovely pool and other facilities. Read all about our new-look rooms on our website, and remember to book direct for the best deals (don’t forget, these rooms are also half price until the end of November 2016!)

FIND WELLNESS: TWO YOGA CLASSES EVERY WEEK

Our yoga program has been running since July, but we’re delighted to announce the launch of our new schedule for November – as well as our new yoga instructor Melissa Lingo.
In November, we’re running Vinyasa yoga classes on Sunday mornings at 9.30am. And for our Wednesday evening classes at 5.30pm, Melissa has designed a series of ‘back-to-basics’ sessions that help us all to find out best form.
All our classes cost $6, and walk-ins are welcome – no need to register! Sessions take place around the hotel grounds, including up on our gorgeous, relaxing rooftop terrace, with views of the local area and our neighbours’ crocodile farm! After the class, you’re welcome to relax at the pool with a cocktail, mocktail or something to eat – after Sunday classes, a selection of brunch dishes from our extensive a la carte breakfast menu is also available.

Read more about the Baby Elephant yoga program here.

HELPING LOCAL KIDS ACHIEVE THEIR DREAMS

Baby Elephant has recently taken on two young Cambodian trainees, who we’re helping to complete their education and reach for their dreams. They have been staying with us on a full-board basis, and helping the Baby Elephant team with odd jobs – but the best news is that this week was their first day at high school! Jing and Ravuth came in from the countryside, and are now attending Siem Reap’s 10 January 1979 high school.
They both want to be lawyers and, while they’re only in year 10 at the moment and might yet change their minds about their career paths, we promise to support them with whichever path they choose. Thank you again to our loyal guests who make these kinds of initiatives possible by staying with us at Baby Elephant – and we’re sending big congratulations and good luck to our trainees at their new school!

Cambodia’s annual Water Festival, or Bon Om Touk, is almost upon us! This year the festival takes place on 13, 14 and 15 November, and you can expect Siem Reap to be taken over by boat races, food and market stalls, and a lively carnival atmosphere. Many local businesses in Siem Reap and around the country will be closed during this period, but Baby Elephant will open as normal, and we’d love to welcome you through our doors to experience this must-see Cambodian festival.
Baby Elephant is the perfect place to stay during Bon Om Touk, thanks to our peaceful side-lane location that’s just a short hop from the riverside as well as the night market and Pub Street areas. And to celebrate the arrival of Water Festival, you can find incredible savings off all our room rates until the end of November! Be sure to book direct on our website in order to get the best deals.
Find out all about the Water Festival on our blog.

SIEM REAP’S BEST CAFES AND COFFEE SHOPS

Where the scene is: Siem Reap is of course best known for the stunning temples at the Angkor Wat complex, but did you know our little town also has a vibrant café scene? It’s one of our favourite things about the city, and we have plenty of favourite spots to grab a coffee. Take a look at our recent blog post to discover where to head in Siem Reap for the perfect caffeine fix – and plenty more.

Where are Siem Reap’s best cafés? We’ve got the scoop on our blog.

NEW FRENCH WINES AT OUR POOLSIDE BAR

We’re excited to announce that we’ve introduced a whole new selection of wines to our bar at Baby Elephant, from the renowned Louis Eschenauer range. Louis Eschenauer’s history of wine production dates back to 1821, and our great choice of bottles from the south of France pair beautifully with the extensive range of local and international dishes available for lunch and dinner. We’ve even stocked a delicious Rosé for summer wine lovers.
A glass of wine is also the perfect way to enjoy a relaxing moment by our gorgeous saltwater pool – and don’t forget, our daily happy hour offers two-for-one deals on many of our wines, spirits and cocktails! What’s more, all DIRECT bookings for Premier Double rooms now get a free bottle of wine on arrival – yet another reason to book direct.

INSTALLING STREETLIGHTS IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

(not on Pub Street but on Road 53)
Improving our community and the lives of those around us is an important part of our vision for the future of Baby Elephant. As part of that commitment, we’re thrilled to have been able to install streetlights on the adorable little local lane that leads to our front door. These streetlights are hooked up to our electricity supply, meaning we pick up the bill for running them – in the process, we’ve made your stay in Siem Reap more comfortable as well as making our neighbourhood safer for both locals and visitors.
